The gorge of Sioule, a Natura 2000 area
The gorge of Sioule are protected through the program Natura 2000. This area spread from Miremont to Chouvigny and cross the district over 5 municipalities : Saint-Priest des Champs, Sauret-Besserve, Saint-Gervais d’Auvergne, Ayat-sur-Sioule and Châteauneuf-les-Bains.
This area is protected for its natural housing and for the fragile species living there such as bats. This classification is a guarantee for wildlife and biodiversity in the Combrailles.
